Hours Of Searching, Down To A Scan

Bathshack had the warehouse space. What they did not have was a way of knowing what was in it — until paper pick sheets were replaced with a system that knew where everything sat.

About Bathshack

Bathshack is the UK and Ireland’s best value online bathroom supplier, shipping anywhere in the UK and Ireland from a distribution base in Belfast. They specialise in high quality designer bathrooms at competitive prices, with a range running from complete suites through to accessories.

Alongside the online store, Bathshack operates six showrooms across Ireland, so customers can see products in person before they buy.

The Challenge

An extensive product range needs a lot of warehouse space, and Bathshack had it. The problem was using it. Space was not being worked to its full capacity, and stock was difficult to locate once it was in the building.

Staff searched the warehouse with printed sheets to find the products on an order. It could take hours. Orders were delayed as a result, and the delay grew with the range.

Labour was the second problem. Managing people across several warehouses was being done manually, and at that size it had stopped being workable.

What Changed

Canary7 replaced paper pick sheets with directed picking, so staff are sent to a location rather than sent looking. Travel time across the warehouse halved.Inventory accuracy rose by 90%, because stock is now recorded where it actually sits rather than where it was last assumed to be.On the labour side, Canary7’s labour management gave Bathshack a way to track activity and manage staff across sites, lifting productivity and individual performance — an 82% improvement in labour efficiency. The change showed up first thing each morning. Staff used to wait for a team leader to hand out the day’s jobs; now the work is on their phone the moment they arrive, saving around twenty minutes of downtime a day. New starters feel it too — where the paper process took time to learn, someone new is up to speed on the system in about half a day.Barcode scanning removed a whole category of error. Bathshack buys the same lines from many suppliers, so items often arrive barcoded or named differently to the pick sheet. Because every item is scanned, picking the wrong one is designed out — and scanning in and out gives full traceability, showing who handled a product and at what stage, from the moment it is received to the moment it leaves the building.Despatch was manual too. Bathshack ships fifty to sixty parcels a day, and carrier labels for Royal Mail and DPD used to be keyed by hand. Now a picker closes the order out, the label prints, and the parcel is wrapped and away. When Bathshack moved to Acumatica as its ERP about eighteen months ago, Canary7 came through that transition alongside them.
“From the very first moment Canary7 was implemented into our warehouses, our operations have never been the same. From doing everything manually to having automated processes is like night and day.

Aside from making our warehouse operations as efficient as possible, the software is so easy to use and understand, with very little training required for our employees. This is a huge bonus for us. Can’t thank the Canary7 team enough.”
